I've heard you are getting married at Camp YMCA of the Redwoods.
What's it all about?
Our
wedding is a grass roots effort. From our high priestess, Sirena to
the photographers (Tahnee, Brian & Gina), DJ Harris, decorating committee,
musician's and entertainment. The entire weekend is being created by
the community of our family and friends. Clearly, one day together just
isn't enough time. Many of you, our favorite people, are coming from
all over the country to celebrate with us. We want you for the whole
weekend! Camp Campbell is a seventy-acre private camp facility nestled
in the beautiful Redwood forest of the Santa Cruz Mountains. With its
hiking trails, 34 foot climbing wall, high and low ropes course, and
outdoor heated pool, you'll get a weekend packed with fun activities.
During your cozy two night stay, you will be housed in clean, rustic,
heated winterized cottages that hold anywhere from seven to twelve amazing
people (friends or family members whom you know). Delicious homemade
meals will fill your hungry appetites. We reserved the whole camp just
for our wedding and look forward to spending the weekend with you!

How
is this wedding different from other weddings?
Our
main goal was to create a fun, relaxing and welcoming environment for
all of our family and friends. Initially, our only plan was to have
an enclosed wedding for a weekend at a hotel, so guest could relax once
they arrived, eliminating the driving. Many hotel & retreat sites were
either too stuffy or very strict with rules. We wanted the freedom to
create our wedding from scratch. The camp idea lent itself to just that.
Therefore since we are creating the event ourselves, the feel is very
casual. We wanted it to represent our style. Most weddings are just
for the day, our wedding kicks off with a Friday night Bar-B-Que beginning
at 5 p.m. and ends Sunday with creekside poetry and brunch.

When
I received my invitation it said to RSVP by June 1st, that is only a
week away. What's up with that?
Opps!
In our enthusiasm to plan this wedding weekend, Kevin & I miscalculated
slightly on how long it would take to design and hand craft each invitation.
I thought for sure it would take but a moment! Even though this was
not the case, much love went into each and every fold of the card and
lick of the stamp. We appreciate your understanding and would like to
encourage guests to RSVP back as quickly as possible. Currently, we
have been working around the clock to finish our website. We hope the
site has provided you and will keep on providing tons of information
to help make the decision process an easy one. Thanks for visiting FAQ.
Feel free to explore the other areas of our site!

|
|
Why
in your invitation did you ask for my e-mail address? What if I do not
have e-mail?
Whether
you decide to RSVP by filling out the bottom portion of your invitation
and detaching it (snail mail style), or by using the website to RSVP,
you will notice in both instances we have asked you to give us your
e-mail address. The purpose of this is to keep you informed/update and/or
to communicate with you about the details of our wedding event. We promise
not to Spam you with pitches to buy Kevin's CD. Nevertheless, if you
would like to purchase one, listen to, or find out when his next show
is, just visit his website at www.kevinmerritt.com
If you do not have an e-mail address, no worries, there are always alternative
methods by which we can reach you.
BACK
|
|
Do
you really need a photo of me? Can I send it via e-mail? Do I get it
back?
Yes!
Pretty Please. We have thought of a fun project/game that we would love
to create. Although Kevin & I probably have pictures of you already,
we want to make sure we use the one you like. Hee Hee! You can send
a photo via e-mail. If you use this method, be sure to scan it no more
that 150 dpi resolution (if you "scan for the web", that should
work fine).... If you send us a photo with your "snail mail" RSVP we
will give it back to you. We will just make a copy of the picture before
returning it.

Okay,
so camping is where it is at. How do I reserve my space?
So
glad that you are interested in staying the camp with us. All that needs
to be done in order to stay at the camp is either RSVP on line and choose
"Yes, I want to stay at the camp". Then you have the option to pay on
line using Pay Pal (which is very safe). Or you can always just mail
back the bottom portion of your invitation and send it back to us with
an enclosed check for the appropriate amount. You can make checks payable
to Kevin & Leslie Merritt. The reason why the checks are payable to
us rather then the YMCA camp is because the camp does not want to deal
with hundreds of people sending them individual checks. Rather, they
wanted us to collect the money and write one big check to them. It is
much easier for the camp this way. Just to let you know exactly what
your ($100/$85)/ person weekend goes to, it in no way, pays for any
part of our wedding. It does cover the cost of a two night stay and
three meals (Sat. Breakfast, lunch, and Sunday brunch). Friday night
and Saturday night dinners are being hosted by the Pfeiffer and Merritt
family.
The break down then is:
$39.5/night for housing and $7 x (3 meals) = $21 Grand Total $100 for
the entire weekend per person.
This probably the most inexpensive accommodation and we think the best
choice!!!
BACK
|
|
Can
I pay for my camp accomodations or extra meals online?
As
a matter of fact, YES. We have set up our system to allow you to pay
by credit card through the secure service PayPal.com. It's very easy
to do and many people have already taken advantage of this. When you
RSVP online you will automatically be given
the option to pay by credit card. If you would like to go directly to
the payment page you can access it through this link. GO
TO PAYMENT
Please note that there is a 3% credit card service charge when you
pay online. Sorry.

|
|
What
about alternative places to stay? I am more the hotel type.
No
problem. Just return to the main web page and under "Camp Info" you
will find a button for Alternative Accommodations with links to their
website and photos.

|
|
Even
if I do not stay at the camp, can I participate in the weekend activities?
YES
YES YES! All activities are free and all guests are welcome. With one
exception, if you want to eat Saturday breakfast & lunch, and Sunday
brunch at the camp it is $21/ person (for all three meals). Remember,
the Friday night Bar-B-Que is open to all guests and hosted by the Merritt's,
so we want to see you there.

|
What
if we're staying at a hotel but want to eat Saturday breakfast & lunch
& Sunday brunch at the camp?
This
is not a problem at all...and we would love for you to join us as much
as possible. If you want to eat Saturday breakfast & lunch, and Sunday
brunch at the camp it is $21/ person (this is for all three meals).
This comes to $7 per meal per person. You can pay for the "Additional
Meals" by either using the website option or you can mail us a check
payable to Kevin & Leslie Merritt. We will then record this and send
your payment to the camp. Remember, the Friday night Bar-B-Que is open
to all guests, and hosted by the Merritt's. We would love to see you
there. Saturday's wedding reception of course is open to all guests
and is being hosted by the Pfeiffer family.

What
is the dress code for the wedding?
The
dress code for the wedding is dressy causal. A few examples would be:
Sundress, khakis and a polo shirt, pants and button down, nice jeans,
Indian wraps are always fun, cute jump suit....you get the idea.....it
is at a camp.....so nothing too fancy unless that's your thing.
BACK
|
|
Where
do I park at the camp?
In
keeping with the goals of outdoor recreation in a camp environment,
vehicles are restricted to the parking lot on the roadside of the river.
Vehicle traffic in camp endangers the root system of the trees by compacting
the soil, and is a safety hazard to guests. If this parking will not
be adequate, please notify us in advance. We realize many of you may
have lots of luggage and may not know where to go once you've parked.
After you have parked your vehicle, walk across the bridge and "The
Wedding Party Greeters" will be there to meet you, help you with your
baggage and show you to your cottage. The camp provides carts to help
move heavy or bulky items into the camp. Please try to car pool whenever
possible, the camp can only hold about 60 cars. In addition, if anyone
would like to volunteer as an official greeter, please go to the "Committee"
section for more details.

If
I am coming from far away, when should I arrive on Friday so I don't
miss out on the fun?
We
suggest that most folks arrive around one or two in the afternoon on
Friday. This way you will have plenty of time to rent a car and drive
down to the camp or your hotel. The Bar-B-Que will about five o clock
that evening.
BACK
|
|
What
is this Friday night Bar-B-Que dinner thing all about? Who can go to
it? What time does it start?
Rather
than having a traditional Friday night dinner, that usually is only
for the wedding party, we decided to plan a Welcome Bar-B-Que, open
to all guests. This way we can spend more time with you and introduce
you to all of our favorite people. Delicious home cooking will fill
your bellies as you sit and chat with some amazing individuals. The
dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. followed by a talent show. Don't miss out
on the fun!
BACK
|
|
What
is involved with the Friday night talent show? Can anyone sign up?
We
decided on having a talent show Friday night as a way for our guests
to relax, have fun and get to know one another better. Every one of
you invited is extremely talented with a beautiful gift to share. Whether
singing is your thing, playing an instrument, story-telling, jokes,
acting, magic tricks or philosophical exploration...all is welcome and
encouraged. In order to help us coordinate this event, please sign up
on our "Talent Show" page. Just a few things to keep in mind when signing
up. Try and keep your skit no more than five minutes long. This is just
so everyone has an opportunity to share his or her stuff and to make
sure the show doesn't go too long. Can't wait to see you on stage!

Where
is the wedding reception dinner taking place? What kind of food? How
do I get there?
The
wedding reception is going to take place at Scopazzi's
Restaurant on Saturday, September 15th, 2001 at six o clock in the
evening. This dining establishment is the big rave in Boulder Creek.
Once you taste the food you will see why many folks give it the two
thumbs up! You may have noticed that when you RSVP online, we asked
you what dish you would like for dinner Saturday night. Our choices
for dinner are as follows:
FISH- Blackened Halibut over Pasta
CHICKEN- We're still choosing between Chicken Mascotte, Mediterranean
or Cacciatore. Can't decide.
VEGGI- A close friend of ours, Greg Hottinger has allowed us to steal
his scrumptious vegetarian lasagna recipe. Scopazzi's has been kind
enough to add this dish to our menu .
We also asked you to give us your choice of beverage. This is just
to give us better clarity on how much wine to provide. All of the wine
for the evening has been hand picked from our favorite winery,
Bonny Doon Vinyards. A variety of beer choices will also be provided
during dinner as well as soda, tea and coffee. For those who prefer
liquor, you can purchase drinks in the lounge at anytime.
How to get there. After the ceremony, shuttle buses will be waiting
at the camp grounds to drive guests over to the restaurant, which is
five minutes away. After dinner the busses will drop guests back off
at the camp grounds for our dessert reception followed by dancing. If
you would like to drive there instead, click
here for directions.

I
am a vegetarian. Can you help me?
You're
in luck! Kevin & I are sensitive to this issue since many of our friends
and family enjoy a vegetarian lifestyle. During the Saturday night dinner
we have provided a choice of yummy vegetarian lasagna. In addition,
Camp Campbell's menu facilitate easy adjustments for vegetarians, and
they told us it would be their pleasure to meet specific needs. Please
let us know early on if this applies to you, so we can notify the camp.

How
is the weather this time of year?

Indian summer. We've been told temperature range from warm swimming
weather during the day, to cool sweater weather during the night.

How
can I help out? Are there committees?
Boy
this is music to our ears! If you would like to get involved on a committee,
just click on the committee page and you will see all of the areas we
need volunteers. In our grass roots effort, we understand how amazing
a community of friends can be...and we promise not to ask too much from
you. Thanks so much for your interest & getting involved! You are the
shoulder we can lean on.

Do
you have any suggestions for cheap airline tickets?
As
a matter of fact, we do! Just go back to the Camp Info page and there
you will find a button for Airline links. If you are coming from out
of town, you can either fly into San Francisco, Oakland or San Jose
airports. Each are about an hour and a half from the camp but make sure
you leave plenty of time available in case of traffic. The San Jose
& Oakland airports are much smaller than the San Francisco airport.
However, ticket prices might be cheaper into San Francisco. Happy travels
and remember- Right Foot First When Boarding the Plane! Check out www.travelocity.com
for some good fares.

What
are the cabins really like? And how does the sleeping arrangement work?
Camp
Campbell has 15 cozy wooden cottages that house anywhere from 7-12 guests
(amazing people, friends and/or family members whom you know). Half
of the cottages are located on one side of the camp in the "Indian
Village", the others are located in "El Pueblo Village"
on opposite side of the camp. The camp is pretty small so you don't
need to worry about which side you are on. These rustic cottages are
heated, winterized and very clean. We have contracted a linen service
to provide basic linens for each bed (top & bottom sheets and blanket).
Here is how the cottage arrangements will work. First submit your RSVP
to let us know you wish to stay at the camp. Next, we will begin coordinating
people in cabins. At this point, we will e-mail/call you requesting
housing preferences if any (people whom you would like to share housing
with). We will work very hard to make sure everyone is happily paired
off, family with family and friends with friends. You can get an idea
of what the cottages look like by clicking on the "Camp Tour"
page, and double-clicking on Cabin #2.

|
|
What
are the bathroom facilities like?
I
promise you the bathrooms at the camp are not dirty smelly Port-O-Lets.
Camp Campbell provides two main bathroom facilities, one for each small
village. Each men and women bathroom offers plenty of showers, sinks
and stalls. To ease your mind a bit more, the camp staff cleans the
bathrooms daily. Keep in mind, water conservation is a must. Although
it may appear we have plenty, remember there are many people who also
use it. Each person should limit his or her shower to 5 minutes of running
water. If you are one who really enjoys the water, may we suggest taking
a nice dip in the pool.
BACK
|
|
What
should I bring with me if I stay at the camp?
Try
to pack compactly. Luggage carts are available for taking items to the
cottages.
Bedding- Although we are providing basic linens, if you would
like to bring additional blankets or sleeping bags, you are more than
welcome.
Clothing- Dress is casual and appropriate for camp. We suggest
pajamas, shoes ( hiking/sneakers), socks, underwear, t-shirts, sweaters,
jacket, jeans, and shorts. The dress code for the wedding is dressy
causal. A few examples would be: Sundress, khakis and a polo shirt,
pants and button down, nice jeans, Indian wraps are always fun, cute
jump suit....you get the idea.....it is at a camp.....so nothing too
fancy unless that's your thing.
Toiletries- TOWEL is the big one! We could not find a company
to get us towels...sorry! toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, deodorant, chapstick,
flip-flops for shower, sunblock, insect repellent, soap, shampoo.
Optional Equipment- flashlight, camera, binoculars, compass,
cards, board games, books, musical instruments, sunglasses, lounge chair,
pillows, Frisbees, toys, crafts...
What Not To Bring- glass bottles, aerosol cans, knives, firearms,
TV, refrigerator...

When
do we have to leave the camp on Sunday?
Just
following Sunday Brunch & Creekside we would like to encourage all camp
guests to help us in a big sweep of the camp (clean up of your cottages)
and to circle up at the flagpole for a big farewell goodbye.
Creekside- this is an activity that will take place along side of the
river next to the stage, where guests can gather round and share thoughts,
poetry, songs, experiences and/or feelings. It is a magical experience
that you do not want to miss.

What
is the camp food menu for the weekend?
The
camp food menu for the weekend consists of delicious meals all approved
by a dietician. The meals are not the same meals served during the summer
camp period. Rather they are a bit fancier (higher quality) type meal.
Check back with us in a few weeks and we will have a better idea of
the weekend menu.

What
are the rules of the camp?
Most
of this stuff is pretty common sense, however, in case you forget, on
the back of each cottage door you will find a copy of the camp and cabin
policies. They are as follows:
No glass or gum in camp.
You must wear footwear in camp at all times. (Expect for swimming &
showering)
Please do not write on the walls, doors, bunks, mattresses - any graffiti
will be costly.
Please leave all exits in cabins clear at all times. This is for fire
safety purposes.
You may put posters up with tape or push-pins (no nails, staples, or
painting).
Please do not remove brooms, dustpans or wastebaskets from cabins.
Please park all vehicles in the parking area.
Before leaving please tidy up and pick up any trash around cabin.
The waterfront can only be used during designated times when staff is
present.
Please do not move bunks.
Personal Property
Use common sense in being responsible for your personal possessions.
We are among friends, so I know we don't need to worry. Just be smart.
Medical Needs
Nominal first aid concerns (cuts, bruises, etc.) will be handled by
us. The Camp Campbell staff cannot administer any (non) or prescription
drugs...sorry!
Injuries
If someone is injured at camp, we will take the necessary steps. It
is extremely important that an Accident Report be completed if an injury
happens during your stay. See the Host or camp staff to help you with
the completion of the form.
Vehicles
A speed of 5 mph is enforced. Parking is in designated lots. You cannot
drive up to cottages.
Smoking
Smoking is allowed in only two designated areas. Outside back door of
Sommer Lodge and the front porch of the Rec Hall.
Drugs/Alcohol
Is prohibited on Camp Campbell property.
Camp Fires
Campfires are allowed only in designated fire areas. Wood is provided
for all campfires and fireplaces.
Quiet Hours
11 p.m. - 7 a.m. Local Ordinance
Pets, Firearms, Boats, Cooking
Pets, firearms and boats are not permitted to be brought to the camp.
Cooking and food storage is prohibited in the cabins due to rodent problem
and sanitary standards.
Heating
Controlled heating devices are used in cabins. You may adjust thermostat
but do not tamper with electrical equipment in cabins. Please do not
place anything on heaters, as it is a fire hazard.
Camp Clean Up
Try to do your part in keeping the campgrounds and bathrooms clean.
At the end of our event on Sunday, we are doing a big sweep of the forest,
to make sure that we LEAVE NO TRACE at Camp Campbell. Your help is much
appreciated!
Damages
Please do not damage anything.
Telephone
The camp pay telephone (831-338-9948) is located behind the Dining Hall.
We will place all messages on the bulletin board at the office.
Water Conservation
Water conservation is a must. Although it may appear we have plenty,
remember there are many people who also use it. Each person should limit
his or her shower to 5 minutes of running water. If you are one who
really enjoys the water, may we suggest taking a nice dip in the pool.
Emergency Procedures
In case of a fire, earthquake, or lost camper, ALL guests should be
aware of the following procedures:
1. An alarm will announce a fire, earthquake or lost camper.
2. Upon the beginning of such an alert, everyone should go directly
to the baseball field.
3. A head count will be taken.
4. At this time, the host will give the procedure best suited for the
emergency at hand.
Dining Hall Orientation
After meals, kindly pick up your plates and scrape the remaining food
into the trash, separate utensils and dishes into correct piles and
throw out any paper that that is left.

What
does "Leave no Trace" mean?
Leave
No Trace means that after we have left the camp site, there is no indication
of our ever having been here. We must respect nature and the beauty
of the Santa Cruz Redwood Forest, therefore we should leave the camp
the way we first found it. The YMCA will be very happy we did this.

During
the sing-a-long, what if we do not know the words to any camp song?
No
worries! Kevin & I will provide songbooks for you with the lyric to
many of the oldies but goodies. If you're still having trouble, just
tap your foot and hum to the beat...no one will ever know!

How
many s'mores per person?
This
question has been the big one on everyone's lips. In the olden days,
when s'mores were scarce to the countryside, campers use to sit around
the o' fire an ration these tasty treats out, giving just one, single
marshmallowy sandwich per hungry mouth. These days, a lot has changed.
The once scarce snack is now of plenty thanks to mass production technology.
So we say, GO FOR IT! Just try not to get a bellyache.
